Sallegourde Park, energizing natural spaces in Talence

Sallegourde Park, a green space to take the time to breathe while discovering the natural heritage. The city of Talence, a town bordering the municipality of Bordeaux, is rich in its spaces that offer its inhabitants green spaces. Indeed, the city has 2 parks including Sourreil Park and Sallegourde Park.

Beyond being natural spaces where it is good to walk around to get some fresh air, they allow you to discover the surrounding flora and fauna in a playful way. In a context of health crisis, during which time seems distorted. People are often teleworked and have to adapt to the constraints as a result of health measures. For example, to take care of one’s mental health, WHO recommends maintaining a daily routine. She also recommends exercising regularly. Thus, large natural spaces such as Sallegourde Park become privileged places to ventilate the mind. They offer a moment of relaxation away from the hassle of everyday life.

Sallegourde Park, a natural space for the well-being of the inhabitants

Each individual is subject to the restrictions put in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19. These restrictions are useful in overcoming the pandemic. However, they require people to adapt significantly. Indeed, everyone’s daily habits change. In the face of these life changes, we must adapt in order to continue to lead a healthy life. For example, WHO is making recommendations to help people live healthy lives during the crisis. Indeed, between working from home, partial unemployment, managing human relations, nerves can be put to the test in the long run.

WHO says that during this pandemic period, care must also be taken for one’s mental health. To take care of yourself, it is therefore important to maintain a daily routine or to create one. It is important to get up and go to bed at the same time each day. In addition, it is essential to maintain personal hygiene, to consume balanced meals, to manage one’s working time, but also to take the time to do activities that one likes and to exercise. Thus, natural spaces, such as Sallegourde Park seem to be a good compromise to get out of the house and do physical activity while maintaining barrier gestures.

Indeed, the practice of sport in the covered places is put on hold. However, it can still take place outdoors. In addition, the government agrees with WHO and affirms the importance of exercise for all citizens. Thus, exercise is possible in public space and in outdoor sports facilities. However, we must ensure that health standards are met. In Talence, locals can take advantage of Sallegourde Park to enjoy a moment of respite. Indeed, the Sallegourde Park is a small park of walks. In particular, it was rehabilitated in 2015. Today it has a health course and a playground for children. On the commune it is a destination that wants to be sporty while being a family relaxation area.

Energizing natural heritage

Thus, the city of Talence wants to increase the visibility as well as the attractiveness of its natural heritage. In particular, it wants to make it easier to make Sallegourde Park accessible. In the coming years, it will therefore put this dynamic at the heart of its concerns. The Sallegourde park with a 1700m course for joggers, as well as equipment to learn more about the surrounding flora and fauna will be in the spotlight of the city. Beyond being a pleasant space for the walk, the city wants to offer it a dual use. Indeed, it wants it to become a place of accompaniment and education for environmental protection. The reflection of the city is accompanied by an ecological diagnosis in partnership with the LPO, the League for the Protection of Birds. The results of the diagnosis have led to the development of two new thematic paths with a pedagogical aim.

Thus, the first course of the Parc de Sallegourde is a family educational course. It will enhance the environment. Its objective is to educate awareness about bird migration, as well as species inhabiting places such as wild bees; common butterflies and other mammals in the park. Explanations will be provided on information panels scattered along the trail. For the more curious, the city also wants to set up games and “expert” inserts in order to make learning from young and old more fun.

At the same time, the second route, the nature explorer route, consists of a treasure hunt that aims to stoke the discovery. For this, ten panels made by the city are to be found in the park. They address the species of birds that coexist within the latter. Each panel provides useful information to the knowledge of species. Moreover, in a digital world, the city of Talence is adapting. In particular, it offers a QRcode to scan to discover the birdsong instantly.

To offer well-being to its inhabitants in such a special context, the city of Talence places all its hopes in the revitalization of its natural spaces. While these are primarily useful for walking and exercising, they also become places of learning to awaken the consciences of all. Driven by new technologies, with the introduction of QRcode, there are no more excuses for not learning about its environment.
