The architect, builder of the digital world

The architect, liberal or salaried, contributes to the renovation and construction of buildings. Leading players in the construction sector and, consequently, in real estate, these builders have become digitalized over time. Their profession, like many trades, sees their productivity greatly improved through digital. This is a change that also affects the number of jobs on offer. Indeed, the construction sector is recruiting more and more. According to INSEE, “full-time equivalent employment (EQTP) is increasing (up 1.3% in 2018, after -0.0% in 2017)” (1). Promising results for a sector that is adapting its customers’ demands to its offerings.

Towards a lasting renewal of the profession of builders

The architect’s core business is site monitoring. He coordinates and executes all stages of the renovation and construction of a dwelling. It can be attached to an architectural agency or work for a company with a real estate heritage requiring new or maintenance work. To be an architect is to carry out the life projects of individuals. The renovation of an apartment, the expansion of a house or even the realization of plans for a future home… all these projects punctuate the daily life of this builder.

The professional world is changing and, with it, the ways of practising its profession. Each sector is faced, on its scale, with a shift in digital. The latter brings practicality, time savings and new perspectives of the profession. The real estate world, with its significant economic weight, has thus changed considerably in recent years. Indeed, “volumes [du marché de l’immobilier] increased by 6%” in France between 2015 and 2016 (2). Globalization has greatly accelerated the phenomenon, leading to a transformation of the architectural profession.

Security ensured by the digital transformation of architectural companies

As a historical profession, the architecture sector is now largely impacted by the new digital tools available to it. User expectations are changing, and the construction industry has understood this. It is to boost their productivity, that builders use tools from digital transformation. The rehabilitation of their work obviously requires 3D design, but also virtual reality and drones. Among the data processing tools, there is the px 80, the fast and robust building 3D scanner,a particularly representative example. The purpose of all these tools is the articulation of each of them. Indeed, it is necessary to be able to make the most of it, at the service of the business project. The robot offers solutions, but it is up to the human to set them up and optimize them.

Because the job of architect also involves risk prevention, it is essential to analyze the data as quickly as possible and in an unparalleled security. The 2.0 tools bring real security to construction sites. Expert surveyors, project managers, architects or project managers, construction professionals take risks on a daily basis to carry out other people’s projects. At first, these digital tools are revolutionizing the sector in a way of economic efficiency and practicality. And, secondly, their role is also to strengthen the safety of its key players. It’s a great story.
