Metropolitan Summer – a cultural season for a rhythmic summer

During the summer, in the centre of Bordeaux, the Metropolitan Summer takes place. This is one of the most anticipated events by the people of Bordeaux. Indeed, since 2012 the Metropolitan Summer has reached nearly 200,000 people. Every year, the Bordeaux metropolis is transformed to accommodate art in all its forms. For its eighth and new edition, the theme highlighted by the event is freedom. The event will therefore take place with an influence turned towards philosophy and its main actors. The latter will then be part of the current of thought of the Enlightenment. Thus, culture will once again be at the heart of this dynamic and economically active city that is Bordeaux.

The Metropolitan Summer, an event inviting its public to travel

In 2017, the theme of the Metropolitan Summer edition was landscapes and territories. For its new edition, this year Bordeaux changes register. The city highlights the subject of Freedom during its event. This is a subject that affects every citizen from near or far. Beyond being a simple idea, freedom is questionable. It is also a vast subject of discussion in philosophy. Where does it start? Where does it stop? Through more than 100 events, Bordeaux wants to invite people to think about this notion while taking an interest in art. Thus, visions of freedom are expressed through a part of the culture anchored in our history for centuries.

A true subject of philosophy, Liberty invites citizens to reflect on its meaning. To extend the questioning Bordeaux and its metropolis invite interested parties to the Metropolitan Summer. It takes place from June 20, 2019 to August 31, 2019. This event allows you to discover many cultural events. The goal for the city is to invite its audience to travel. On the other hand, it wants to make art and culture accessible to all. Bordeaux invites people to take an interest in these notions as well as their values. Indeed, through the latter, culture and art carry a particular mission in the culture of individuals.

The major event of the Metropolitan Summer 2019 will begin with the Fête du Fleuve. The event highlights the most beautiful sailboats in the world in front of an audience that will be gathered to celebrate the water. It will end with an equestrian show, Ex Anima during which the spectators will see the Zingaro Theater. For two months, visitors will be able to discover numerous exhibitions, animations, shows and concerts. To extend art to the widest possible public, the Metropolitan Summer is decided to call on new partnerships with neighboring municipalities. During the previous edition in 2018, 25 of them had responded to the call.

This year, the Metropolitan Summer wants to highlight the landscape and built heritage of the city. For this she highlights many artistic projects. The latter are built in particular with municipalities, inhabitants, associations, cultural operators and local structures.

In addition, to put more emphasis on art and its function, exceptional works will come to stop in Bordeaux. Indeed, the Louvre Museum will lend 45 works to the Museum of Fine Arts of Bordeaux. They will be highlighted through an unprecedented partnership between the two museums that will begin on June 20.

Culture, a factor in the Bordeaux economy

The 2018 edition allowed nearly 200,000 people to discover different means of artistic expression. Thus, they had benefited from no less than 200 events. For this major project to take place, the Summer Metropolitan was granted aid of about 330,000 euros paid by Bordeaux Métropole. The objective was to best help the implementation of the event. This support will be renewed for the 2019 summer event. The desire is always to offer the public a wide choice of activities through a new program.

Indeed, located at an economic, social, professional and cultural crossroads, the Metropolitan Summer is one of the most anticipated Events in Bordeaux. This edition will be a key factor in developing the cultural economy and the living environment of the city. Especially since in Bordeaux cultural dynamics is an important notion. Indeed, the people of Bordeaux give priority to their jobs. Many Bordeaux residents don’t take the time to go to the museum, or enjoy what the city has to offer culturally speaking. Bordeaux invites some 780,000 inhabitants to join this event. The idea is to bring to life the city which today is under constant construction, due to many developments of neighborhoods such as Brazza, Paludates or the Bassins à Flots.

The inhabitants and tourists participating in the dynamism of Bordeaux are the driving force behind this development. They contribute to making the city of Bordeaux, a culturally rich city. That is why it is important to offer them opportunities to value coming together and creating positive synergies. Every year, cultural events multiply. Thus, Bordeaux residents and tourists alike will be able to attend the summer sale that will take place from 17 to 20 July 2019, or the Bordeaux Open Air, a Sunday music festival taking place throughout the summer at the Jardin Public, where between 3,000 and 10,000 people gather every week.

Therefore, for this new edition of the Metropolitan Summer, Bordeaux offers a rich cultural season with many events aimed at bringing the city to life culturally speaking. On the other hand, if the economy is a real part of Bordeaux’s dynamism, culture is just as important and allows Bordeaux to experience a real pleasant living environment, which makes the city a good place to live. Therefore, Bordeaux must not only be an economic and professional crossroads, but a real cultural opportunity where events multiply.
