Seniors’ residences are democratizing

Seniors’ residences are on the rise. Older people are increasingly seeking this accommodation. Indeed, there is a growth of the population of the over-60s. It is estimated that 20 million sexagenarians will be registered in France in 2030 (1). Thus the Silver Economy is a buoyant and growing market. So to meet the needs of this market, we find the senior residences. These are facilities that allow seniors to remain independent while benefiting from services adapted to daily life. The Hesperides group is one of the major players.

Seniors’ residences, a safe and comfortable living environment

The population of the over-60s is increasing in the territory. It increased by more than 20% in 2020 (1). The ageing of the population brings to the question of the accommodation of the elderly. To meet this need, senior residences offer solutions tailored to each individual. There are an average of 8.7 places in residence for 1,000 people aged 75 and over. The market is buoyant and experts estimate that more than 160 new homes will open by 2021.

In contrast to EHPAD, a senior residence is an institution that welcomes fully self-reliant seniors and wishes to be independent. This solution is an alternative for older people whose housing has become too difficult to manage. It can also be a solution for isolated people or simply to anticipate a possible loss ofautonomy. Non-medicalized, senior residences offer all the comforts to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment on a daily basis.

They are designed to provide local services such as shops, public transport, doctors and pharmacists to occupants. Ideally thought out, they are made to facilitate the daily life of seniors while promoting the maintenance of their autonomy. Generally composed of apartments or detached houses, senior tenants live independently. However, they can still benefit from common space to break the loneliness.

To support the maintenance of autonomy, senior residences can offer various services worthy of thehotel industry. Seniors can enjoy restaurants, salons, a form area or a hairdresser just a stone’s throw from home. Private support services are also in place. These include helping with toilets, administrative procedures, mail management and medical care. Thus, the Hesperides contribute in this direction to ensure the maintenance of seniors at home and value their autonomy (2).

Hesperides support seniors in their autonomy

Hesperides belong to the COMPASS GROUP FRANCE group and its subsidiaries SOPREGI and SOPREGIM. Forerunners, they are the first in France to have launched the concept of senior residences in 1978. Led by Philippe Bernard, the group is thus one of the leaders in the commercial management of senior residences. As a result, hesperides have become one of the references among senior residences. The main objective is to provide places of life adapted to the needs of independent seniors. Thus, the solution meets the needs of a diverse target, among them, there are retirees or even young seniors who seek to maintain their independence with services to facilitate their daily lives.

In line with the life plan of each resident, the solutions offer a safe and soothing living environment. Indeed, the location of each Hesperides residence offers an immediate proximity to the shops and the city center but also the quiet of a residential area. The Hesperides residences in Arcachon and Bordeaux illustrate this point. Thus within these residences the senior benefit from high-performance and quality services whether they are included or à la carte. In addition, they benefit from a more attractive housing compared to conventional real estate.

Thus, the Hesperides provide an answer to the new expectations of seniors: to remain independent for as long as possible while having a safe and adapted environment. Indeed, as the population ages, seniors must have the opportunity to continue to live independently. According to a study by Echos Etudes, the senior residence market still has a bright future ahead of it. Indeed, the proposed offer currently covers only 2% of self-employed seniors over the age of 75 (1).
