Before creating 270 degrees, Pauline and Guillaume GALLAIS met at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.

She is a designer in interior architecture and set design. Former interior designer at the Musée d’Orsay, for 3 years, she decided to create her micro-enterprise in April 2015.

Musée d'Orsay - Art

Pauline describes herself as a versatile woman, with her training in the Design School in Nantes, as well as all her experiences in the professional environment. She wanted to open a Concept Store, a store offering objects and creations of a well-defined range with a particular staging, intimately linked to her background and skills; but market studies have prevented the completion of the project, which has not proved viable.

Guillaume was born in Toulouse. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in journalism in Paris, he worked for 12 years as an image reporter. Then he worked at the Musée d’Orsay as an art director, where he met Pauline, who told him about a new project: creating an online sales site with ephemeral events.

He immediately agreed to start this adventure, and left the capital in July 2015 to settle in Bordeaux, with his wife. This is the beginning of 270 degrees (270 degrees).

Debut at the “Port of the Moon”

Freshly arrived in the Port de la Lune, they were supported and accompanied by Anne-Iris POUSSIELGUE, Advertising consultant and founder of the association “Les Parisiens de Bordeaux”, who lent them an establishment apartment, located in Les Chartrons, which also serves as a Showroom. Their attraction to the city and the absence of competitors in this market decided them to project themselves in Bordeaux, like many Parisians who prefer its dynamism and its framework in the face of the lack of opportunities offered by the Parisian market.

Pauline and Guillaume’s goal was to work with designers only located on the Atlantic façade in the west of France, hence the name of their company, 270 degrees.

In the nautical environment, 270 degrees corresponds to the heading due west.

Pauline, who works in parallel as an interior designer, is very touched by the Made In France, a guarantee of quality and know-how that she loves very much, and found that the creators had great difficulty communicating on the networks regarding their creations.

While conducting research on locavorism, she saw that this attitude did not yet exist for interior design. The couple’s wish? Highlight the designer, his territory and his creations.

Giving creators a chance

To launch their online site, they started approaching the creators a year ago, coming from all over the West, from Finistère to the Basque Country. 10 designers have been selected, and are highlighted on their website, with a sober and uncluttered design to highlight the creations (chairs, clocks, mirrors, decorative objects…).

They are young creators, who are just starting out, or who exhibit but who want to settle on an online store; 270 degrees does not advertise, but wants to weave its e-reputation around its ethics: the sale of “beautiful” and “local” products. The concept appeals, and works.

At the showrooms organized by the company, 100 people were each present to physically discover the unique or limited edition creations on display. Exclusivity attracts, and makes talk of 270 degrees.

Guillaume and Pauline’s ambition goes hand in hand with their development. They want to choose their creations and create a specific collection 270 Degrees. Developing their network, their notoriety and also the range of services of their site appears as a must in their long-term strategy, to remain avant-garde in their market. This company represents for them the project of a lifetime, a huge investment of time in line with their vision of art and interior decoration.

In their online store, they offer original creations by unique designers, such as HURLU DESIGN (recycling of eco-design luminaire with a rather refined design), FLUÏD (glass craftsman, in collaboration with Pierre Gagnaire), who has his own color chart: 50 opaque colors, 50 transparent colors) or ALCYONE, which consists of two designers specialized in cabinetmaking and furniture design). Enough to satisfy consumers eager for beautiful, useful and “made in local”.

A successful turn towards the design studio

With her experiences and artistic encounters, Pauline Gallais decided, in 2018, to evolve 270 degrees towards a design studio.

After many years of practice of scenography, but also of design, Pauline brings up to date her “inspirative designer”. The opportunity to develop his services as a designer. It also continues to showcase the talented designers of the Atlantic and its Inspiring Coast.
