The return to School in Nouvelle-Aquitaine placed under the sign of ecology with ADEME

In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the time for the start of the school year has come. As every year, the start of the school year involves the purchase of many school supplies for children. In addition, according to a study by GFK, throughout the country the turnover of sales of school supplies is estimated at no less than 600 million euros. If at first it is a real cost in the budget of parents, all these products often have a considerable impact on the environment. It must be said that most items are made of plastics or harmful substances.

On the other hand, their manufacture involves the extraction of raw materials, production, transportation. Of course, once used, they are waste. Faced with the environmental problem and the climate emergency, it is necessary to raise awareness among the youngest as soon as possible. The school thus becomes the ideal place to teach children to become actors in the ecological transition. At the same time, the Ecological Transition Agency invites families to consume better by following simple actions for the returned to Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The principles take the form of concrete and simple actions in favour of the environment.

The school is committed to sustainable development and ecological transition

The school is mobilizing in the face of global warming and the start of the school year in Nouvelle-Aquitaine is an opportunity to rethink the way it consumes. Indeed, within schools, students are confronted with environmental issues from an early age. The objective is to raise their awareness and bring them to become actors of the ecological transition. In this sense, if school is a place to acquire knowledge and prepare for professional life, it is also a place that educates young people in society. Thus, schools must be exemplary places in terms of environmental protection.

The school’s mission is to make students understand the relationship between environmental, economic, social and cultural issues. Therefore, students perceive the interdependence between man and nature. At the same time, they understand the notion of solidarity on a global scale. To achieve this, schools set up educational projects in favor of the environment.

Thus, at the beginning of the school year in September, middle and high school students elect an eco-delegate. Its mission is to invite its comrades to adopt simple and daily actions to fight against global warming. On the other hand, it will intervene in projects around biodiversity in order to reduce the energy impact, and promote eco-responsible actions within the establishment.

Beyond these actions, the environmental issue also takes its place in the school curricula from the beginning of the school year in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Sustainable development and understanding of its challenges are integrated into the curricula. Teachers and educational staff are trained for this and must integrate it into teaching. At the same time, the diplomas of the technological and professional tracks also integrate the challenges of sustainable development. Indeed, STI2D training is positioned as a training at the forefront of these new challenges. While national education fully introduces environmental issues at the heart of its operation, other actors are involved in raising awareness among young people. For the start of the school year in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, ADEME gives advice to start the year on the right foot.

ADEME recommends some actions to start the new school year in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

For the start of the school year in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, ADEME invites you to rethink your choices and your way of consuming by applying simple gestures. The goal is to reduce the environmental impact of each student while teaching them to consume better. In particular, it calls for the reuse of both school supplies and clothing. This includes sorting through the previous year’s school supplies so as not to throw away items that are still usable. In this sense, it is worth buying only what is missing. In addition, for the start of the school year, ADEME advises to avoid all supplies harmful to health. Thus, it advises against the purchase of glue in sticks and liquids, the purchase of supplies containing too much plastics. The eco-label site makes it possible to identify products with a low impact on the environment and health.

ADEME also recalls that soft and active modes of transport must be favoured. Thus, for the start of the school year in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, it is advisable to favor walking or cycling. If this is not possible, the use of the car is not necessarily a necessity. It can be replaced by public transport or carpooling. Finally, the fight against food waste is also one of the challenges for the start of the school year in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. ADEME therefore invites students to pay attention to the portion of food to avoid throwing away. She also invites parents to think of snacks from seasonal and local products. The ideal is once again to limit packaged foods.

Thus, the start of the school year in Nouvelle-Aquitaine is being prepared while respecting the environment. For the younger generations, it is important to become aware of and adapt their consumption gestures on all levels. Indeed, young people are the actors of tomorrow’s world and they must understand its stakes and problems.
