Geev, donations between individuals to help students

Last updated:

The Geev application’s primary purpose is to promote solidarity and ethical behaviour. The concept makes it easy to give and retrieve items and food around your home. Indeed, the process is simple, just post an ad and then discuss with the “Geevers” to agree a meeting place to proceed with the donation. This allows you to do a good deed for your neighbour but also not to throw away objects you no longer use. In the context of a health crisis, students are among the most affected. Thus, Geev has made it possible to provide a solution to these students in situations of food insecurity in particular. Nevertheless, students are also in a precarious employment situation

Geev, the reference app in terms of donations of food and objects

Geev is an app created in 2017 by Hakim Baka and Florian Blanc. Its objective is to promote the donation and recovery of objects and food between individuals. This then allows the “Geevers” to retrieve or give away items or food near their homes. This process is easy, playful, ethical and eco-responsible. The concept of the application thus allows individuals to give a second life to their objects that they no longer use. Indeed, the Geev application has given a second life to more than 6 million products. Added to this is the fact of helping those in need, not necessarily having the means to buy the items they can find on the application. With 2.5 million users, the app is present in France and Canada. His next projects are to expand Geev internationally in order to democratize donations between individuals.

In the context of Covid-19, the platform has recorded an increase in donations of more than 104% since March 2020. A climate of solidarity has been established in a lasting way to help people in precarious situations. This is particularly the case for students, facing isolation, loss of connection but also the reduction of their budget especially for food. This is partly due to the cessation of their paid activities, especially during confinements. Moreover, as the restaurant sector was completely suspended, and also the main area of student employment, some students did not have the opportunity to find another job. Thus, for 56% of students,it is mainly food expenditure that is the source of financial problems. It is in this context that Geev enters the scene, in order to provide support and solutions to these students.

Support, ethics and training, the place of companies in the health crisis

The health crisis has created real shortfalls on both the employer and active students sides. Indeed, companies have seen their activity decline because of the different containments but also the closures of international borders. As a result, some companies have found themselves in difficult financial situations requiring them to lay off or shut down. This has created a reluctance to do employment, particularly youth employment. Thus, it is with this in mind that a component of the Recovery Plan announced by the Government is devoted to the integration of young people into the labour market. This will help to stimulate the recovery of economic activity. Indeed, substantial means are thus put in place. Financial aid, hiring aid for companies, training, just as many levers mobilized to promote professional integration.

Recently, the hashtag #SauvonsNosAlterants was launched by some 50 communication agencies. They have thus mobilized in favour of the recruitment of alternates in a context of complicated hiring for young people. These agencies are thus committed to hiring one more alternate in their services. Indeed, at this stage of the year, if students looking for alternation fail to find one, they are exposed to several risks. State aid to alternates expires on 28 February 2021. Thus, they will then have to pay for their training if they can afford it, or will be obliged to leave their training. The mobilization of these communication agencies is thus a substantial solidarity movement. It allows students to get their heads out of the water and save their future.

Geev joins forces with Auchan Retail, a meaningful partnership

Geev’s strategy to get closer to retail chains to raise awareness among the French to give a second life to their objects is underway. Indeed, the application dedicated to donations of objects and food between individuals announces its partnership with Auchan Retail. The aim of this union is to raise consumer awareness of responsible and sustainable consumption. For this, a campaign will then be set up in store and via digital. This will aim to encourage consumers to give a second life to their objects with the help of Geev.

Auchan Retail is one of the major players in mass distribution. Indeed, it has more than 618 points of sale throughout France. Thus, having recorded 445 million visits to its merchant sites and stores, Auchan Retail becomes the first supermarket chain to adopt Geev. Indeed, the brand proves its desire to make its customers aware of solidarity and responsible consumption. Geev then comes to support Auchan Retail in its quest for more sustainable consumption, where the second life of objects counts and to fight against waste. Thus, this partnership is a new major step in the democratization of donations in the retail sector.

Geev and MADE join forces to make their customers agents of change

Giving a second life to objects is a vocation on Geev’spart. To continue its commitments, Geev wants to go further by offering customers to become consumers. It is with this in mind that the application is associated with the MADE.COMbrand. A major player in the decoration sector, MADE has been committed since its creation to offering quality furniture, accessible to all, while caring about the environment. For this, the brand is committed to using materials from responsible sectors and to use responsible and only essential packaging. To these responsible actions is added the possibility of giving a second life to objects.
MADE’s customers thus become real players. Indeed, customers have the opportunity to give a second life to their decorative objects and / or furniture MADE. To do this, simply order an item on the MADE.COM website and then click on the button “I choose an association” when confirming the order. You must therefore choose the association of your choice and then click on the link to the Geev site. Then create a Geev account and post an ad with the MADE item or furniture you no longer use. Thus, when the object is recovered by a Geever for a new life, MADE donates 10% of the amount of the order to the association you have chosen. A gesture that is both good for the environment, for the community but also for oneself.
