Circular economy, Geev, a player committed to the environment

5,394,637 conversations took place on the Geev platform between January 1 and June 30, 2021. These conversations are the first step towards object donation but not only. The platform sets up meaningful encounters between users. This dimension is important for Geev, which values its mutual aid community. In particular, it wishes to convey values of benevolence and kindness.

On 22 April, World Earth Day took place, an opportunity to highlight the circular economy and its actors. Indeed, this day is dedicated to the protection of the environment. It also values all the actions put in place to promote the energy transition but also eco-responsiblesolutions. In order to respond to the ecological and climateemergency, solutions are emerging. They are part of a new kind of economy. This is the circular economy. This new consumption model must make it possible to minimise the environmental impact but also the consumption of natural resources. It is also a promising new development model. On the one hand, the public authorities agree to value and, on the other, consumers seem to be in demand. Thus actors like Geev, position themselves and propose solutions within the framework of an economy in favor of the environment.

In order to develop a little more this dimension and its actions, the platform has partnered with the Auchanbrand. The goal is then to join forces to raise awareness of waste among as many people as possible. Thus, in February Auchan launched an awareness campaign to introduce Geev to its many customers. The campaign invites reflection on the subject of the second life of objects that are still too underestimated. And yet, it is a simple gesture that is part of an anti-gaspi and eco-responsible approach. With the support ofAuchan, Geev can now reach even more people and invites them to adopt a more responsible behavior for the planet but also for the wallet.

A solution also for professionals

If the Geev platform is democratized among individuals, it also targets professionals. Indeed, the application offers a solution to professionals who are concerned by the new applications of the Anti-Waste Law as part of the Circular Economy promulgated in 2020. Since 1 January 2022, producers, importers and distributors of non-food products intend to destroy unsold goods. They are forced to reuse, reuse or recycle them. In this context, Geev offers the professional a solution of recovery by donation. This solution has the advantage of being more economical and more responsible. In addition, it saves logistical complications for professionals who do not necessarily have to overtime to grant

The implementation of the donation is also illustrated in a partnership between Geev and Made.com. Indeed, both players have set up an innovative service. The latter allows when buying a new piece of furniture to post an ad to offer a second life to his old furniture. In parallel with this action, Geev has just launched business accounts. They allow brands to offer their unsold items for free to users of the application.

In addition, the platform has set up an “Impact” feature that was created thanks to the partnership with Time for the Planet. It is a non-profit company that acts against global warming. Thus, every donation on Geev turns into “bananas” that can be converted into euros to support environmental projects.

The donation of objects is part of the circular economy

The circular economy, an economy of the future

According to ADEME, the Environment and Energy Management Agency, the circular economy is defined as an economy in contradiction with the linear economy. It aims to limit the waste of resources. Thus, at the same time, it limits the environmental impact by optimising the life cycle of products. These actions take place both in the stages of design, production, consumption and in the end of life of the product. This new model responds to environmental issues and the climate emergency.

Indeed, still according to ADEME, waste disposal plants collect no less than 17 million tons of waste every year. This waste comes from French households. Among the 17 million tons, ADEME estimates that more than 9 million tons could be avoided because they are objects that are still usable. Therefore, action must be taken against this waste. Thus, the circular economy focuses on seven main pillars: sustainable sourcing, eco-design, industrial and territorial ecology, the economy of functionality, responsible purchasing, longer use times, collaborative consumption and finally recycling and waste recovery.

At the same time, these actions are supported in particular by the public authorities, which put in place laws. lately the anti-waste law supports the concept. It was promulgated on 10 February 2020 during work on the Circular Economy Roadmap. On the other hand, the circular economy is anchored in the law on the energy transition for green growth of 18 August 2015. Thus it is like a national objective and as a pillar of sustainable development. Therefore, thecircular economy has concrete objectives. Resource consumption in GDP should then be reduced by 30% by 2030. In addition, the idea is to reduce waste by 50% by 2025 and move towards 100% recycled plastics. Finally it aims to reduce greenhouse gases and create no less than 500 500 000 additional jobs.

While the objectives of the circular economy are supported by public authorities, consumers are also increasingly sensitive to this type of consumption. Indeed, according to a global study by ING 83% of consumers believe that their consumption can have a positive impact on environmental problems. In addition, 59% of consumers are more sensitive than before to the impact of the products they buy.

Faced with this observation, actors stand out with ambitious solutions. This is the case of Geev, an application that is fully in line with the circular economy movement. As the famous chemist Lavoisier said, ‘Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed’.

Geev an application to give a second life to the object

Geev is an application that was born in 2017 thanks to Hakim Baka and Florian Blanc. The application allows you to stimulate the donation of objects and food between individuals through ads. Users, called Geevers, can thus give away or collect objects or food for free around their homes. This solution is simple and free. This invites us to greatly value products that could have ended their days in a dumpster. Thus, the application has more than 2.7 million users. In particular, it has made it possible to give a second life to more than 8 million objects. It must be said that the application is easy to use and makes it possible to make the donation accessible at any time and anytime or in the territory. Donation is no longer a headache but becomes a real economic and eco-responsible opportunity that is part of the circular economy.

Rich in his success in France and Canada, Geev does not intend to stop in such a good way. Indeed, the application wants to democratize its concept a little more by pushing it internationally. So with Geev, giving is winning.
