Crèches, child development at the heart of the strategy

Finding a place in a nursery for your child is not easy. To this day, in many cities, there are too few places to accommodate all children. Private nurseries are therefore on the rise, with increasing demand, especially in the context of the health crisis. The offer is developing, with a new vision, focused on the development of the child.

A nursery offer “lagging behind” in view of demand

A childcare facility suitable for young children is essential in order to maintain a minimum of professional activity. Due to lack of space, mothers often interrupt or reduce their careers. The offer can also be far too expensive to be supported by the fireplace (1).

In times of de-confinement, with the use of telework then strongly encouraged, the need to welcome young children has increased. At the same time, health constraints forced (and still oblige) nurseries to reduce their capacity to accommodate. Depending on their premises, the reception in daycare of several groups of ten children has thus become impossible. These restrictions have made it very difficult for some nurseries to operate.

However, CNAF aid has been set up in the meantime to make up for it. According to Pauline DOMINGO, Director of the Children, Youth and Parental Department at the CNAF, more than 430,000 nursery places have benefited from exceptional financial assistance (2). The situation is also difficult for families, a situation that my Child or My Place in Crèche initiatives are trying to remedy by facilitating exchanges with nurseries.

Léa and Leo develop their network of innovative nurseries in the Bordeaux region

However, despite these difficulties, the nursery market is changing. For example, under the Poverty Plan, the State has announced the creation of more than 30,000 nursery places by 2022 (3). Beyond this aspect, the needs of families are changing. According to the “Crèche attitude” study carried out with Opinionway, the crèche is no longer considered a mere place of care. Thus, parents attach great importance to the nursery’s educational project: psychomotor awakening

In Bordeaux, the Léa and Léo Group has just acquired the Ernestine company, with a aim of establishing itself. This group, created in 2006, is the 6th network of private nurseries in France. It is intended for children under the age of 3 for an after-school reception. Today, with 53 establishments in the Greater West, Alsace and the Rhône-Alpes, the network intends to continue to develop its offer. Indeed, accompanied by Enterprise and Decisions, he recently acquired the company Ernestine with the aim of consolidating its presence in New Aquitaine.

The group’s objective is to put at the heart of its child development strategy. A goal that also meets the needs of parents. Thus, in each establishment labelled Lea and Leo, each child enjoys a unique course. The educational project is based in particular on the Ludique Itinerance (4). This specific pedagogy revolves around a much freer circulation within the crèche, allowing exploration, meeting with children of other ages, and also moving games and toys in space. A way to leave the little ones the possibility to express themselves, to explore, in a setting of course secure but much freer. Favorable to an awakened and stimulating development.

The basis is respect for the child as a human being.

The demand for custody changes. Massive, it now involves the well-being and awakening of the child as an indispensable goal. In response, a diversified offer continues to grow. Let us bet that in these tumultuous times, the “refocusing” around the close family circle benefits at least young children.
