Bordeaux: ethical wine, a commitment put in the spotlight

Bordeaux, a region that develops ethical wine? Known for the quality of its wines and the worldwide reputation of its wineries, it is one of the most popular cities for wine tourism. For several years now, offers for this type of activity have been developing for an international clientele. Wineries are also evolving to meet new challenges, including environmental issues. Better to cultivate to consume better, a growing need that is also meeting with increasing success. From the Cité du Vin to the committed wineries, a world of evolution and awareness…

The City of Wine, certification in the service of ethical wine

The Cité du Vin is an essential museum in Bordeaux, which, as the name suggests, offers a dive into the heart of wine history. Since May 2016, the hotel has been offering visitors temporary exhibitions, as well as a permanent space dedicated to the promotion of the world’s wines. From its opening, the Cité du Vin had a goal: to promote ethical wine, and to promote responsible operation. Bet won, she obtained the NF Environment Sites Visiting Certification on April 2, 2021. A distinction awarded by AFNOR Certifications which rewards his efforts for almost 5 years.

It is the first girondin site to receive this certification, as well as the most important French site in terms of number of visitors. Ethical wine therefore appeals to visitors, eager to discover the city’s history and commitments to a more virtuous culture. This environmental approach began as soon as the City of Wine was created, but does not intend to stop there. Indeed, it wants to go even further to minimize its environmentalimpact. This commitment helps to raise awareness of environmental protection among visitors.

The City of Wine is taking the bank to make the most of renewable energy, as well as eco-labelled cleaning products. For its operation, it uses mostly local suppliers and providers who also adopt these practices. Practices in favour of an eco-responsible approach. The City of Wine is thus committed to meeting more than sixty criteria, and aims to increase this number in order to be even more responsible. This commitment also relies on the reaction of visitors: it wants above all to promote sustainable and supportive tourism. For this, within the museum, there are only reusable structures…

Ethical wine is also in the Bordeaux Wine estates

The Château de Parenchère is also betting to create more ethical wine. This estate, located on the border between Bordeaux and the Dordogne, has made the bet to grow wine organically. A transition that began in many areas throughout the region. The Château de Parenchère has begun this transition in 2020, which is expected to last about 3 years, until the soils are healthy to start organic. Renowned for the longevity of its red wines, it offers a unique tasting experience. The Cuvée Raphael, one of its wines, was notably elected “Talent des Bordeaux Superior” in October 2020. A beautiful reward that shows the know-how of winemakers.

In order to create this ethical wine in line with the commitments of the region’s stakeholders, Château de Parenchère innovates. He wants a wine that fits into modernity with a clever blend of Cabernet France and Merlot. Bordeaux wine is renowned for its high quality, and often associated with an important price for great vintages. But Château de Parenchère wants Bordeaux wine to be associated with a wine of pleasure, an ethical wine that reveals a very expressive fruit.

This is how the Balancer was born, a red wine without added sulphites. The symbol par excellence of the complexity of Bordeaux wines. It symbolizes the quest for harmony between a classic structure common to all Bordeaux wines… And a major aromatic explosion, to shake up the codes of traditional wine. An ethical wine, then, but also full of flavors for an original experience.

Bordeaux, a commitment to eco-responsibility

Ethical wine is also a guarantee of quality throughout its manufacturing process. The growing will of the organic grape-growing estates to turn to this type of green crop. This allows you to create new wines, with different tastes, without transformation. Others go even further and create vegan wines, without the use of animal resources throughout the process of growing, harvesting or processing wine.
