In recent years, Bordeaux has seen the Quai de Paludate change. Since the beginning of February 2017, the 450 employees of the Caisse d’Epargne headquarters, previously located in Mériadeck and Bordeaux Lac, have taken up their new headquarters in Bordeaux Euratlantique. An installation of more than 11000m2, which will not be the last imposing construction to come on the Quais de Paludate.
Indeed, the Architects of the BIG Group (BJARKE INGELS GROUP – DANEMARK) see big… Their project of a building of more than 12,000 m2 was selected by Alain ROUSSET, the president of the aquitaine region Limousin Poitou Charente will house the MECA, formerly the Regional Pole of Culture and Creative Economy, on the site of the Abattoirs de Bordeaux. This former building erected in the 1930s is one of the emblems of the city. Demolition work on this imposing building has already begun in 2012, for a total renovation that would change the face of the docks. A Modern building that will host several institutions, such as the FRAC (Regional Contemporary Art Fund), a large café, a terrace, as well as the OARA (Artistic Office of the New Aquit regiongroin) with its dance hall and theatre.
This futuristic building is just as important in its energy project for years to come. The building’s builder, Mariano EFRON, plans to install 1200m2 of photovoltaic panels to produce more energy than the building consumes, thanks in particular to the project of a transparent building, with large windows to allow natural light to pass through and thus limit the use of electricity. In addition, it announces that in terms of heating, 95% will come from the burning of waste. A project respectful and beneficial to the city of Bordeaux.
The major project represents a budget of 52,000,000 euros and will be completed in 2019, with a delay of three years on the initial deadlines, announced by the architect. At issue is a mentioned risk of inconstructibility due to a risk of flooding, and then a delay due to the complexity of the project and construction.
The construction of this building is one of the most important projects sponsored by the Bordeaux metropolitan area…
