Bordeaux: animation cinema, video games, a growing sector

Animated cinema and video games are gaining momentum in Bordeaux’s business. Between the successful companies that set up shop on site, and the graduate campuses that make up the talents of tomorrow… Bordeaux is experiencing growth in this sector which is obvious. That’s why Campus 3iS decided to change location, to see bigger. Newly established in Bègles, a stone’s throw from Bordeaux, this school intends to impose itself for the training of this sector. Training in film, audiovisual, sound, animated cinema, video games, special effects and live entertainment.

Animated cinema and video games in the spotlight

Campus 3iS has found a new campus larger than the old one. With an area of 5200m2, it could accommodate up to 200 additional students, in addition to the 550 students already enrolled. This growth can be explained by the environment particularly favourable to the development of this buoyant sector, well established in New Aquitaine and Bordeaux.

Near the 3iS campus, there are more than 70 companies in the sector considered creative. Springboards for graduate students, with great professional career prospects. The campus has a solid reputation and relies on the support of internationally recognized companies such as SolidAnim. This company has been involved in the production of Avatar, or Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The Bordeaux studio, specialized in virtual production and 3D animation is the official partner of the campus. It provides students and trainers with modern tools, which they use themselves in their activity. This allows students to learn cutting-edge techniques, and facilitates their professional integration. This partnership shows how strong the sector is and offers unparalleled dynamism.

Thus, the campus can count on SolidAnim’s support for its development. A development supervised in particular by the employees of the company, for certain points of animation cinema or video game. This allows to arouse more vocations, and to make known all the intricacies of animation or video games. For students, the key is to be able to find a company in which to evolve in the future. This is a delicate situation at a time when the pandemic has paralyzed employment for the past year.

A campus adapted to animation cinema

Thus, the new 3iS campus is larger, but also better equipped. Equipment is needed to train students, but also to keep up with technological developments in the sector. Indeed, animation and video games are undergoing regular changes. With the democratization and deployment of video games ever more realistic with virtual reality or the release of more powerful consoles … Or with animation cinema, more fluid and accomplished over the years … Campuses like 3iS need to be equipped.

Thus, in this new campus, the focus has been on professional quality equipment. This will include a 250-seat projection room; three 80m2 image trays; A catchment board a 105m2 live performance stage; 32 assembly booths; three graphic arts workshops, or a store. It is therefore a complete space, with all the equipment that today’s and tomorrow’s professionals need.

The 3iS campus is not the only one offering training courses for animation or video games. Schools such as ECV Digital, Ynov and Lisaa also offer similar courses. The market for higher education in digital in Bordeaux is therefore particularly complete, offering multiple avenues to students.

The entertainment sector is particularly lucrative in France, driven by the emergence of successful studios and companies. Bordeaux, for example, relieson the presence of Ubisoft , a world-renowned group that has been publishing video games for years. Other companies, such as Asobo, are also among the most famous names, especially with the release of Flight Simulator, a video game particularly rewarded.

The French market, a major competitor on the world stage

France does not have to blush: it is one of the best countries in the world on the video game scene. France is the second most important nation for video games, behind the United States. New Aquitaine is one of the most dynamic regions in France, bringing together 11% of video game companies in France.

In terms of animation, France ranks third in the world after the United States and Japan. A country also energized by the New Aquitaine region, which produces 40% of the animated films made in France.
