Industrial property consultancy, the birth of a new leader in France

Last updated:

Three of the largest industrial property consulting firms are merging to become the French leader of the ICC. The alliance of IPSIDE, SANTARELLI and BREVALEX represents to date the largest consolidation of the sector in France (1). It thus allows the new SANTARELLI GROUP to now lead the French market for intellectual and industrial property protection in many aspects. It now has the most important resources, a very wide range of skills, a marked geographical location in France and internationally. It is also the largest industrial property consulting firm, with a turnover of more than 75 million euros.

SANTARELLI GROUP, to come to the fore in a polarized sector

The industrial property consulting sector is increasingly subject to extremely different economic situations. For good reason, while the overall market is growing, as is the number of ICC recruitments, it is mainly the larger players that benefit this growth (2). The essential firms such as Beau de Loménie, Casalonga, Egyp capture the vast majority. On the other hand, smaller structures and self-employed people, which are much more numerous, suffer from a much less flourishing activity. As well as lower margins due to increased competition.

Faced with this observation and not to be left behind, IPSIDE, SANTARELLI and BREVALEX announced in March their merger. Already in a very good position in the 2021 ranking of the best IP firms in France, it now comes first (3). Before that, SANTARELLI was already in 7th position, in the category of must-sees. BREVALEX came in just behind in 8th position, closely followed by IPSIDE, in 12th place. All this on a list of more than 55 IP reference firms.

With this merger, the new entity SANTARELLI GROUP offers itself an operational and technical scope difficult to match. In addition, the complementary expertise, clientele and locations give it the necessary agility in a rapidly changing economy. Moreover, the clear strengthening of the group’s finances allows it to invest heavily in new technologies and services.

It is the union of three emblematic brands of the market, it is the realization of a shared ambition and the will to give ourselves the means to seize the opportunities of tomorrow.

A French leader in industrial property consulting, but also in Europe

To remain competitive, IP firms seek to distinguish themselves by offering innovative solutions via digital and gaining notoriety. Those already recognized are financing larger ambitions with the opening of new offices internationally. This strategy is all the more prized because it responds to the work underway to establish a unified patent court (JUB) in the European Union. (2)

To date, more than 60% of ICC firms are located in the Ile de France (4). However, companies are also looking to find their partners close to their regional premises. Thanks to BREVALEX and its 4 national branches in Paris, Grenoble, Toulouse and Massy, the new SANTARELLI GROUP is also spreading throughout France.

On the international side, the group relies on the know-how of IPSIDE, known for having intervened in almost every country in the world. In addition, since 2015, the firm has established itself in Las Vegas and China, which is a direct focus of economic life in North America and Asia.

With nearly three hundred employees, including more than one hundred qualified industrial property consultants, driven by the same desire for excellence, its strategic presence in the United States and China, the new firm will represent an incomparable offer in the French industrial property market.

Industrial property consultancy on the front line to enhance the intangible heritage of French companies

The structures of intellectual property and industrial consulting firms are complex and comprehensive. Thus, firms combine the skills of lawyers and engineers specialized in different sectors. This is the case for SANTARELLI, for example, which hasexperts in industry, chemistry, biotech, pharmacy, mechanics and physics.

To date, industrial-owned firms employ more than 1,000 qualified professionals. That is, lawyers and engineers, excluding support functions. All in all, the number of employees has increased to more than 4,500. In total, they generate annual sales of 700 million euros.

Despite a market for IP consulting fractured between the very large and the smallest, the number of experts is growing year on year. For good reason, it is estimated that on average 63% of the assets of French companies are intangible (5). This ratio is still increasing in technology companies, where the 90% mark is %. crossed hands down, sometimes even reaching %. 99%. As a result, companies are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of protecting their innovations and getting them evaluated properly. For example, in 2012, Alcatel’s 27,900 patents enabled it to obtain a credit of 1.6 billion euros.

Our merger is a wonderful opportunity to take a central position in the industrial property consulting market in France. The addition of our resources will allow us to develop new services to meet the needs of a rapidly changing industry.
